The iSimangaliso Wetland Park (formerly Greater St Lucia Park) on South Africa's east coast is a recognized UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage, which extends over an area of more than 250,000 acres and therefore is South Africa's third largest game park. This national park includes the St. Lucia Game Reserve, St. Lucia Marine Reserve, Sodwana Bay National Park and other wilderness areas.
The region has a myriad of butterfly and bird species as well as more than 1000 crocodiles, which occur mainly in the estuaries. There are also hundreds of hippos romping the waters of the wetlands. South Africa's largest lake, the Lake St. Lucia is eponymous for this park and covers an area of 360 km².
