Bushman engravings at Twyfelfontein, Namibia

In the surroundings of Twyfelfontein over 2,500 images of Bushman engravings have been pictured on 200 slabs of rock. These petroglyphs were made in various ways. Besides rock paintings in which colour contrasting materials are on stone surfaces, where smooth slabs of sandstone were applied, it is mainly rock engravings (petroglyphs) where a well was worked into the stone by removing material.

Therefore probably less indenting in the rust-brown rock, rather than revealing different colours beneath the surface for a graphical representation were used.
