Green Kalahari & Augrabies Falls, South Africa

The Augrabies Falls National Park is an hour away from Upington, covers an area of 820 square kilometers and stretches along the Orange River. The vegetation is perfectly suited to the dry desert climate. For example, there is a growing Kokerboom (quiver tree) forest; These plants can store large amounts of water in their stems to survive long periods of drought. The park is home to the Augrabies Falls and has a game reserve with rhinos as the main attraction.

Temperature fluctuations in the region have led to unique adaptations of wildlife. The animals in Augrabies can survive in extreme high and low temperatures. Smaller animals use the shade or caves, crevices and fallen trees as shelter.
