Drakensberg & Golden Gate, South Africa

Drakensberg & Golden Gate, South Africa

The majestic Drakensberg Mountains extend over four South African provinces to Lesotho. They offer breathtaking scenery and spectacular views and are on the list of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Most of this mountain range is located in KwaZulu-Natal and is known as Drakensberg (Dragon Mountains) or uKhahlamba (the Barrier of Spears).

This mountain range is a must for the active traveller. A wide variety of activities ranging from rock climbing or horseback riding is available. The latter is almost everywhere possible, only for a short distance through indigenous fern forest or half day / several days along the mountains and through rivers. There are thousands of marked trails. This challenging terrain promises much fun for mountain bike enthusiasts and well-stocked lakes in this region are particularly popular with trout anglers.
